Marcelle, The Hillside Hero

A quick shout-out to Marcelle Jackson, our controller and benefits admin of 9 years, who continues to inspire us with her compassion and commitment to community and advocacy. 

Earlier this month, she and fellow volunteers from her Hillside Victory Community Garden helped bring the American Red Cross Home Fire Campaign to her neighborhood. A critical part of this nationwide effort to help reduce the number of home fire-related injuries and fatalities was Sound the Alarm, wherein local fire departments and volunteers went door-to-door offering free smoke alarms and installations. Despite the snowy weather, organizers managed to canvas just shy of 300 homes and install 63 smoke alarms. 26 homes in Hillside are now safer. Bravo!
